Located on the eastern border of the state, over 27 miles consist of ocean coastline and 26 miles of bay shore. Four major rivers traverse the county as well: Manasquan, Navesink, Shrewsbury and Shark. Some farmland remains while commercial fishing still thrives.
Residents of Monmouth County can depend upon a first-rate network of health care and social services. In addition to the excellent care dispensed by area hospitals, specialized services are available in both private and non-profit centers throughout the county. Leading institutions include Bayshore Community Hospital, CentraState Regional Medical Center, Jersey Shore Medical Center and Riverview Medical Center offers a Cancer Center.
Well-served by transportation facilities, Monmouth County boasts a network of efficient highways that include the Garden State Parkway, Interstate 195, Route 9 and 34, and for coastal access Route 35, 36 and 71. Major bus transportation is available along most of these routes to Manhattan and rail service follows along Route 35 to the North Jersey coastline. Ferry service also exists for commuters; those traveling by plane find the Newark International Airport a convenient 40 minutes away.
Monmouth County provides a strong and viable educational system for area youth in its network of public, private and parochial schools. The emphasis is on providing every child with the opportunity for academic achievement and excellence by dedicating the necessary programs and resources to meet the specialized needs of gifted and challenged students. Monmouth County Career Center and Vocational Board of Education provide excellent career training. Brookdale Community College and Monmouth University meet higher education needs.
